Abstract

The development of LGBT communities (Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, and Transgender) in Indonesia has caused a lot of debates, especially about religion. In Islam, homosexuality is not allowed according to the teachings of the Qur’an and Hadith. This article talks about LGBT issues from an Islamic point of view and explains why religious beliefs often lead to the rejection of same-sex relationships. A survey of 66 respondents, 87.5% of them do not support recognizing LGBT rights. This shows that many people have negative views influenced by religious and cultural beliefs. However, some individuals are starting to understand the importance of human rights and agree that discrimination against LGBT people should stop. Public attitudes towards LGBT representation in the media are also mostly negative, with many people seeing LGBT as being very against religious values. These findings indicate that there are different opinions in society. While religious beliefs remain important, Indonesian society is changing as it balances strong traditional values with new ideas from outside. This article argues that the challenge in the future is to find a balance between respecting religious and cultural beliefs while also fighting for justice for everyone, no matter their sexual orientation.
